Argis Solutions Awarded AFWERX Feasibility Study for USAF Use of AR Technology

Currently Seeking Additional U.S. Air Force Sponsors

AR and VR Benefits Military and Private Sectors

The United States Air Force is known for rapidly embracing both virtual reality and augmented reality solutions for its airmen and support crews. These technologies, which range from VR simulators to AR glasses, deliver a range of benefits for the USAF.

Field operation work for both the private sector and Department of Defense work have core similarities, allowing AR/VR solutions to serve a dual purpose for commercialization and DOD implementation.  The primary difference is when data model integration is required.  For instance, the Air Force uses S1000D, an XML-based data model, to house and hold much of their maintenance data in transport.  For DOD solutions, this can be integrated into the solution to allow seamless use of existing data models.  Much of the private sector would use a different data model such as Esri’s ArcGIS Utility Network data model.

The benefits and significance of AR are amplified greatly by current world affairs. The global pandemic caused by Covid-19 brought new challenges for the AF and other government agencies when forced to comply with social distancing regulations to prevent the spread of the virus. AR is a way to overcome these constraints, not only for training personnel, but also for sustaining and maintaining assets and infrastructure from afar.

Argis Solutions Awarded AFWERX Feasibility Study for USAF Use of AR Technology

Argis Solutions is a key player in the mixed reality development and geospatial space. Our current customer base ranges across state and local governmentsenergy (primarily oil and gas upstream), utilities and private organizations. We have successfully launched our core platform, the Argis® Lens, into these markets. The Argis Lens is a patented, award-winning AR application already in use in a variety of industries to view underground locational data three dimensionally directly at the worksite It converts real spatial data from cloud based RESTful services into 3D rendered data around the user’s device.

Argis Solutions is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a SBIR/STTR Phase 1 feasibility study through AF Ventures, often referred to as AFWERX. AFWERX is dedicated to expanding technology, talent, and transition partnerships for rapid and affordable commercial and military capability. This phase 1 contract allows Argis Solutions to provide not only cutting-edge technology but also funding for interested USAF sponsors as part of the AFWERX program.

Funding Available for USAF Personnel

Argis Solutions is looking for USAF partners interested in a year-long project aimed at adapting Argis’ commercial AR solution to USAF operational needs, producing a prototype that provides value for commands like the USAF Rapid Sustainment Office. This AR technology is especially valuable to location, operations, and maintenance roles.

We will extend this functional, patented, commercially viable, and tested product to provide faster navigation to areas of interest, a reduction of unnecessary locate crew deployments, and better in-field maintenance support, with a decrease in failed maintenance efforts.

If you are a member of the USAF that recognizes a need for AR technology in your role and would like to take advantage of the funding that is available to Argis Solutions for this purpose, please contact us at https://www.argis.com/contact.
