The City of Wheat Ridge, CO Updates its GIS Infrastructure

The City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado selected Argis Solutions, Inc. to rebuild its ArcGIS® Server, Portal for ArcGIS®, and ArcGIS® Data Store. Argis added three new servers: one for testing, one for development, and one for Wheat Ridge’s production environment.

The servers were rebuilt in two weeks with sensitivity to Wheat Ridge’s tight timeframe. The old database was configured into a new environment. New workflows were created for publishing data and for using ArcGIS® Pro software, along with corresponding training to support optimized use of the new workflows. A single sign-on with Azure was added to all environments, and external access was provided for Portal. Multifactor authentication was built into the single sign-on process, requiring users to confirm their sign-in by either phone application or email.

Initially, the servers were set up internally with no external access which provided the safest setup regarding cyber security. Argis re-set the SSL certificates and Azure AD to connect to the external domain utilizing Esri and Microsoft best practices for cyber security. Wheat Ridge is currently testing and using the external configuration to provide web services to their third-party application for data collection and reporting.

As a result of its positive experience with Argis’ GIS professional services, Wheat Ridge is also utilizing Argis Solutions’ GIS Managed Services program. This program provides quarterly support for Esri upgrades and ArcGIS maintenance. With these services, Argis will continue to evaluate and help keep Wheat Ridge’s servers ready and available to both internal and external clients while continuing to review and implement any new best practices for cyber security with Esri and Microsoft products in the future.
